Theme/Message/Central Idea of Deep Water The message conveyed by this story is that it is not death but the fear of death that creates terror in our mind. So we need to remove that fear of the death . The protagonist William Douglas recounts his childhood experience with water which has made him aquaphobic. The story is saga of human will power, determination and persistence. Douglas emerged victorious defeating the stark terror that used to grip him in water.
